Sierra Quest Academy is a Community Care Licensed Level 12 group home for boys ages 12-17 and non-minor dependents placed by child welfare services, probation, and private agencies. Sierra Quest Academy is located in Mariposa, a small community in Mariposa County, California, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Yosemite National Park on 10 wooded acres with plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors. It has a fully equipped weight room, game room, and study areas where the program promotes physical health and academic growth on a daily basis. Backpacking, hiking, skateboarding, swimming, mountain biking, rock climbing, snowboarding or skiing, paintball, and horseback riding are just a few of the activities that residents participate in at Sierra Quest Academy.

Our program focuses on getting placements enrolled in Mariposa County High School whenever possible. In Mariposa County High School and the Mariposa Community, placements have a myriad of athletics, arts, drama, extracurricular clubs, and vocational activities and groups from which to choose. At the local mainstream high school campus, placements have the kind of academic opportunity and social interaction that promotes a healthy learning environment. With a diploma from a comprehensive high school, placements can feel confident about furthering their education if that is their goal, and the Sierra Quest family of services offers resources to assist them with any secondary education enrollment.

We promote interaction with community members through community service projects, job shadowing and employment, which develop life skills and positive relationships with people outside of their treatment team. Individual and group therapy, House Meetings, and weekly program review discussions offer plenty of help, guidance and direction as placements navigate their thoughts, values, emotions and the process of maturing and taking responsibility for themselves. The required exercise program, as well as the balanced diet provided, helps placements establish a pattern for physical health and wellness.

As we partner with the youth and his placement worker to develop a plan for meeting the goals of both parties, three important elements receive primary focus: academic achievement, community involvement, and emotional and physical health. Sierra Quest Academy challenges each placement to take inventory of his own values, goals and priorities in all areas of his life: mental, emotional, physical and spiritual.

Mission: Sierra Quest Academy is a group home dedicated to creating a therapeutic family environment which provides residents opportunities to grow mentally, academically, emotionally and spiritually.
